Partnership Established to Improve Medical Software Interfacing

A leading portal for medical practices and hospitals has an agreement with a medical software company to offer enhanced interoperability with electronic medical record (EMR) and other medical software vendors.

Healthcare portal software Bridge Patient Portal (San Diego, CA, USA) is partnering with the X-Link Solutions Network (Land O' Lakes, FL, USA) to improve Bridge’s access to the X-Link-compatible EMR/electronic health record (EMR/EHR) systems databases and to help the portal to optimally interface with them.

The X-Link range of products allows for streamlined data sharing between a wide range of medical software packages, including EMR systems, practice management systems, appointment reminder software, laboratory, and picture archiving and communication system (PACS) imaging systems, prescription systems, and health information exchanges (HIEs).

X-Link offers real-time interfacing between these systems and provides the required data translations to allow for any type of data, format, and data transport method to work seamlessly between systems. The users of EMRs and patient portals licensed by different companies can interface the two systems and achieve Meaningful Use (MU) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) compliance.

With the advent of cloud platforms, an upsurge of data and new ways for information both in the online and mobile worlds, the role of systems integration is becoming increasingly critical. X-Link provides the integration requirements to tap into these multiplatform and multiapplication software solutions while remaining advocates for utilizing existing medical technology solutions.

Although Bridge Patient Portal is HL [Health Level]7-compliant on its own and interfaces with any EMR, the partnership with X-Link gives Bridge immediate access to direct database interfaces, improving mapping, making the interfacing and implementation process more rapid for the user, and avoiding many of the difficulties that can occur from custom interfaces.

“Interoperability is what will define healthcare IT [information technology] in the years to come,” stated John Deutsch, founder and CEO of Bridge’s parent company Medical Web Experts. “Our partnership with X-Link is demonstrative of our goal to support interfaces with all the major EMR and practice management systems in the market.”

Bridge Patient Portal is certified by the Office of National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) for 2014, signifying its HIPAA compliance and support for portable medical record document technologies such as the Continuity of Care Document (CCD). When used with a certified EMR, Bridge can help healthcare professionals meet 100% of MU stage 1 and 2 criteria.

Bridge is also well suited for practices and hospitals of any size, is completely customizable, and has a full range of features. This includes appointment requests, e-consultations, prescription refills, online bill pay, medical records collaboration, and others that help improve patient engagement. As a web-based cloud application that is very user-friendly and easy to implement, many practices are choosing to step outside of their EMR provider for a portal to help them qualify for US federal incentives under MU.

Through their new partnership with X-Link, Bridge can now interface quickly and efficiently with over 170 electronic medical record systems and 136 practice management systems.

Bridge Patient Portal is a novel system for patient engagement and practice management. With a full range of customizable features, it is a suitable solution for practices, hospitals, and healthcare organizations interested in simplifying their office functions while building patient-provider relationships. The portal operates in many different settings, including being offered as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model and a client-hosted client/server model. The portal can also be customized to each practice’s requirements, both in terms of design and user interface layout.

Easy Business Software’s X-Link Medical Software Interfacing products integrate different medical software programs. X-Link develops many interfaces via direct database access, thereby bypassing many costs and complexities imposed by EMR vendors for interface costs, support, and maintenance. The X-Link Medical Software Interfacing product prevents double entry of patient data, charge information, and clinical data across any type of healthcare system.
