Philips Improves Illumination Portfolio

Royal Philips Electronics (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) acquired Burton Medical Products Corporation (Chatsworth, CA, USA) from Glamox ASA (Molde, Norway), a Norwegian industrial group of specialized lighting equipment providers. Burton Medical is a manufacturer of specialized lighting for healthcare facilities. The terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

The acquisition is expected to add to Philips' already considerable strength as provider of lighting solutions. Burton Medical will become a part of the Professional Luminaires business group of Philips Lighting. Marc de Jong, general manager, Professional Luminaires, said, "The acquisition of Burton will add a range of specialized medical lighting solutions to our general lighting portfolio for the healthcare segment, while building further the position of Philips as a total solutions provider to the medical profession.”

Burton Medical is a healthcare lighting manufacturer engaged in the business of designing, manufacturing, and distributing high quality examination, diagnostic, and minor surgery lighting equipment. Philips is the world's leading lighting company and is also one of the world's largest providers of healthcare equipment.
