Following the signing of multi-year distribution agreements, Cepheid (Sunnyvale, CA, USA; www.cepheid.com) has announced the company will market its SmartCycler portable laboratory system along with accessories and disposables in Mexico and Brazil.

The SmartCycler is a thermal cycler with real-time optical detection that can be used to quickly and accurately detect infectious disease agents, human genes, and industrial or environmental contamination. Cepheid signed marketing agreements with BioAgency Co. Ltd. (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Industrias Bioselec S.A. de C.V. (Mexico City, Mexico). Both companies will provide marketing, sales, and service support for the SmartCycler product line.

"Both BioAgency and Biocelec are companies that have a well-earned reputation as quality business units that maintain high standards of customer service,” noted Ira Marks, vice president, worldwide sales & marketing, Cepheid. "These relationships will help to strongly position Cepheid's products in selected Latin American territories and will enhance Bioagency's and Bioselec's roles in the developing life science and genomic testing markets.
