New clinical applications for picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) streamline the clinical workflow throughout the enterprise by providing excellent performance and a rich set of visualization tools available on any conventional personal computer (PC) throughout the enterprise network via local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), or the Internet.

Visage Imaging, Inc. (Carlsbad, CA, USA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA, USA), presented its Visage Thin Client product range, which provides fully scalable enterprise-level performance and a broad set of integrated clinical applications, at the 2008 annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), held May 15-18, 2008, in Seattle, WA, USA.

The Visage Thin Client solution can be used as a plug-in to an existing PACS, or as a standalone system for enterprise visualization. It integrates primary interpretation and advanced post-processing for all two-dimensional (2D), 3D, and 4D image data in a single platform. At SIIM, Visage Imaging demonstrated the latest features of the upcoming release of Visage CS Thin Client/Server, covering many advanced applications for radiology, cardiology, oncology, neurology, and surgery.

New features include image subtraction and multi-phase uptake analysis; calcium scoring; improved left ventricle analysis and improved editing of vessels and heart; automatic bone and chest wall removal; standardized uptake value (SUV) calculation for positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT); perfusion analysis for CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); lesion analysis for follow-up exams; greatly enhanced tools for CT and MR angiography; and many improvements that help to streamline the overall workflow for image interpretation, post processing, and distribution.

"The Visage Thin Client solution offers an impressive set of advanced applications, all integrated into a single thin client platform. It allows you to process data from multiple modalities and studies side by side--whether they are 2D, 3D, or 4D, from X-ray to PET/CT and cardiac CT,” said Marcelo Lima, president of Visage Imaging. "Visage plugs right into your PACS, is fully scalable, and delivers unmatched performance levels for the largest data volumes, from anywhere inside and outside your hospital network.”

Visage Imaging designs and engineers clinical products with the ability to overcome demanding market challenges and improve diagnostic results with accuracy and expedience.
