Geneia (Harrisburg, PA, USA) will provide population health management training to members of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA; Chicago, USA).

Through its education arm, The Geneia Institute, skills-based population health management programs will be delivered to IHA's 209 hospital and nearly 50 health system members. In a series of engaging courses, Geneia will help the hospitals, health systems, physicians, and their teams gain the skills they need to successfully transition to a value-based, population health management environment, including motivational interviewing, patient engagement for effective disease management, and the changing role of the medical assistant in the delivery of team-based care.

The Geneia Institute will also serve as an expert resource for IHA's population health learning and action network initiative, as well as their growing healthcare system physician group. To meet the challenging schedules of healthcare providers, the courses will be delivered via self-paced e-learning modules, and will range from as short as 10 minutes to several hours long and in some cases will involve multiple sessions.

“Our hospitals are in the midst of a shift to value-based care and simultaneously improving care, enhancing the health of their patients, returning joy to the profession, and lowering costs,” said Jay Bhatt, DO, chief health officer of the IHA. “Our leaders, physicians, nurses, and other staff need new tools and skills to transform healthcare delivery. That is why we are excited to partner with Geneia to offer cutting-edge population health and patient engagement courses to our members.”

“At Geneia, we understand that hospitals and health systems are being challenged to change rapidly from fee-for-service to a focus on value,” said Mark Caron, CEO of Geneia. “IHA's commitment to help their hospitals and health system members develop new skills to improve health and provide tools to meet changing healthcare needs are exceptional.”
