An alliance to develop and produce an improved neonatal intensive care incubator has been announced by Delphi Corp. (Troy, MI, USA) and PremaCare (Oslo, Norway).

The companies plan to incorporate a number of improvements not offered in traditional incubators. These include a double-wall dome that keeps the air flow warm at a steady temperature, even when access is needed and the doors are open. Another feature is a specially designed filter system insuring that the air entering the incubator is continuously filtered, even when the doors are open. Also, the new incubator's design places electrically and acoustically noisy components away from the infant to reduce noise and electromagnetic radiation. In addition, the new incubator will have a five-door access system and provide 360o of access to the infant, while offering more stability.

"PremaCare has, in its search for a co-developer, found the ideal partner in Delphi Medical,” noted Terje Heiseldal, CEO of PremaCare. "To develop a product with so many new and revolutionary features demands an organization constantly on the forefront of new technology. It also requires creativity and the ability to transfer know-how and theoretical features into practical solutions. Delphi has all this.”
