Cardiac Science Acquires AED Training Company

In a transaction designed to increase revenues related to automatic external defibrillator (AED) sales, Cardiac Science (Irvine, CA, USA) has acquired substantially all of the assets of Complient Corp. (Cleveland, OH, USA) for 10.25 million shares of Cardiac Science common stock.

Complient is a leading US provider of AED and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and management programs. US corporations, municipalities, schools, and government agencies who purchase and deploy AEDs are required by law to obtain a medical prescription and to have designated personnel trained annually in AED use and CPR by a certified trainer. In the past, buyers of AEDs have had to arrange for their own training with nonprofit organizations or off-duty paramedics, and assure ongoing compliance with recertification and other regulations. Complient is the first company of its kind to offer a comprehensive training program that includes the management and coordination of all aspects of AED deployment, including site surveys, medical direction, and web-based software for record-keeping, as well as AED/CPR training with certified trainers covering all 50 states.

"Strategically, Complient fits perfectly with Cardiac Science, and the offering is a logical extension of our core business,” noted Raymond W. Cohen, chairman and CEO of Cardiac Science. "Moreover, we believe this will provide us with significant competitive advantage over our competitors who don't offer comparable programs.”
