Integrated iOS App Helps Manage Heart Health

An innovative smartphone app combines electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure (BP) data to provide patients with a more complete view of their heart health.

The Kardia mobile iOS app, developed by AliveCor (San Francisco, CA, USA), will now also integrate data from Omron Healthcare (Kyoto, Japan) Bluetooth-enabled home blood pressure devices in order to improve proactive cardiac monitoring for people at risk of stroke, enabling them to take control of their heart health with clinically validated technology and to work with their physicians to determine an appropriate care plan to lower the risk of stroke.

Studies have shown that hypertension among patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with a 50% increased risk of stroke, but until now no single platform has been able to integrate the two risk factors into one monitoring platform. More...
The Kardia mobile app with the Omron Healthcare blood pressure integration is available to download from iTunes for iOS, and will soon be available for Android devices at the Google Play store.

“Giving patients the ability to monitor two vital heart health statistics for stroke in one place has the opportunity to be life-changing. With this combined data, patients can change their most important modifiable risk factor, blood pressure, and seek the right care that could improve heart health and prevent a stroke,” said David Albert, MD, founder and chief medical officer at AliveCor. “Today we are one step closer to achieving our mission of making the ECG a vital statistic for not just cardiologists, but patients, physicians, and caregivers.”

“Our partnership with AliveCor reinforces Omron Healthcare’s commitment to innovation that provides deeper insights, encourages behavioral change, and promotes healthier lifestyle habits,” said Ranndy Kellogg, ‎president and CEO of Omron Healthcare. “The combination of precise technology generating accurate readings, and the ability to track and share that data easily, results in better treatment plans and better outcomes.”
