Virtual Viewbox Offers Portable Radiology Access for Physicians

A portable interface system delivers images, electronic medical records (EMR), and specialist consultation to physicians using any internet-ready device.

The Virtual Viewbox allows physicians access to real time radiology and other services virtually anywhere, anytime. The device streamlines the process of sharing patient information by collating old and new patient records created by any picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) into a single listing. The Virtual Viewbox also enables physicians to conduct virtual side-by-side consultations with a master radiologist, accessing the system using any internet-ready devices, such as personal computers and smartphones.

A further option is the TeleradPAD--an Apple iPad modified toshow radiology images, reports with annotated images, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant secure email, and secure teleconferencing capabilities--that allows physicians to virtually take their radiologist with them into the exam room, operating room, or anywhere else they need a radiology service.

Virtual Viewbox uses sophisticated teleradiology methodologies to maintain HIPAA compliance-images when transmitting patient information; reports reside on the Virtual Viewbox server, not the handheld TeleradPAD, so there is no risk of health record exposure if it is lost or stolen. Physicians can use Virtual Viewbox, at no cost, by asking their imaging centers to send reports to Musculoskeletal Imaging Consultants (MSKIC; San Antonio, TX, USA) for reading.

"Virtual Viewbox is like satellite television; it allows physicians to view the programs from all imaging centers on one screen,” said Douglas Smith, M.D., founder and CEO of MSKIC, and creator of the Virtual Viewbox. "Virtual Viewbox caters to physicians by giving them comprehensive radiology services in the palm of their hands.”
