A new patient monitor measures continuous blood pressure and vital signs without bulky external arm cuffs, improving patient comfort and safety.

The Caretaker Medical (Charlottesville, VA, USA) Caretaker4 system enables uninterrupted, wire-free, electrode-free, real-time vital signs monitoring throughout the full continuum of care, from clinics and hospitals, to patient transport and home monitoring after discharge. Besides continuous non-invasive blood pressure (cNIBP), the device also measures heart rate, pulse oximetry (SP02), and body temperature. With the aid of a comfortable low-pressure finger cuff, patented pulse decomposition analysis technology can measure and display waveforms without using invasive arterial catheters.

Vital signs are displayed directly on the device, with the availability to display waveform data remotely as well, using the Caretaker tablet app, a secure web portal, or on other wireless devices. The ability to send patient data consistently to other monitoring platforms provides the Caretaker4 with robust integration capabilities onto major legacy and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) monitoring solutions, including the Royal Philips IntelliVue range.

“The Caretaker4 wearable vital signs device sets a new standard in monitoring patients' continuous blood pressure and vital signs, either in hospital or remote monitoring situations,” said Warren Kressinger-Dunn, managing director of EMEA and APAC regions at Caretaker Medical. “Caretaker has clear benefits over traditional intermittent spot check methods, offering a clear alternative to invasive arterial catheters or expensive bulky vital signs monitoring equipment.”
