A new microcatheter for neural, peripheral, and coronary vasculature uses aids infusion of diagnostic agents such as contrast media, and therapeutic agents such as occlusion coils. More...

The ReVerse microcatheter for neurovascular indications is a single lumen catheter designed to be introduced over a steerable guidewire to access small, tortuous vasculature. The semi-rigid proximal section transitions to a flexible distal tip, facilitating advancement through vessels. The outer surface of the microcatheter is coated with a hydrophilic polymer to increase lubricity, while the proprietary ovalization-resistant design and friction reducing interior luminal technology enables smooth introduction of therapeutic devices.

Other features of the microcatheter, which is available in 0.53 mm or 0.69 mm inner lumen diameters, include a luer fitting on the hub used for the attachment of accessories, dual radiopaque markers at the distal end to facilitate fluoroscopic visualization, and a shapeable tip malleable via a steam shaping mandrel provided with the microcatheter. The catheter is provided sterile, nonpyrogenic, and is intended for single use only. The ReVerse microcatheter is product of Reverse Medical (Irvine, CA, USA), and have been approved by the US food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“Building on our expertise and proprietary know-how from our intracranial distal access catheter success, we identified an unmet need for a microcatheter designed specifically for delivery of new, complex therapeutic devices,” said Brian Strauss, chief technology officer of Reverse Medical. “The ReVerse microcatheter incorporates proprietary inner lumen friction reducing and strengthening technology and is designed to facilitate predictable, low friction state-of-the-art device delivery.”

“I was impressed with the performance of this microcatheter – it provided smooth and stable delivery of the flow diverter device in distal anatomy,” commented Stanley Barnwell, MD, PhD, medical director of interventional neuroradiology at the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU; Portland, OR, USA), who performed the initial clinical case with a ReVerse 27 microcatheter.
