Brazilian company with a strong showing plans to enter European defibrillator market.

The Cardiomax is an ergonomically designed, mobile, 360-Joule biphasic defibrillator monitor. More...
Its features include electrocardiogram (ECG), spot oxygen saturation (SpO2), external pacemaker, biphasic defibrillator, oscillometric noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) monitor, a thermal printer, and memory for over 150 patients' data. The compact device weighs 4.8 kg, and measures (with paddles) 30 cm x 21 cm x 23 cm, and comes with a 6.5 inch TFT screen. Power is supplied via and external 100-265 VAC or external 10-16 VDC, and an internal NiMH 4-A/hour 14.4-VDC battery.

The Cardiomax is manufactured by Instramed (Porto Alegre, Brazil), one of the largest manufacturers of medical equipment in Brazil. The company recently received the European CE marking for its Cardiomax line of defibrillator monitors, the first such distinction for this product segment—360-joule 2-phase defibrillators—in Latin America. This will enable the company to market the product to EU countries, and others.

According to Arthur Morales, general manager of Instramed, the certification, linked to the features of the Cardiomax, augurs a potential 50-percent growth for the Instramed defibrillator division in 2010.
