Medisys Acquires MEDgenesis

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 13 Feb 2001
UK-based Medisys Group plc has acquired MEDgenesis Inc. More...
(Minneapolis, MN, USA), a diabetes monitoring and diagnostics product company. The acquisition gives Medisys access to the U.S. diabetes monitoring market and expands the opportunities for its Hypoguard Division, which supplies a wide range of blood glucose meters and other testing-related products.

Hypoguard will benefit from the strong national sales team of MEDgenesis. Both companies share a commitment to improve the quality of patient health by offering high- quality products that are accurate and easy to use in both clinical and home settings. Hypoguard has developed a proprietary position in biosensor technology, which is enabling the company to produce a new generation of point-of-care diagnostics systems in 2001 that cover a wide range of diseases.

"Acquisition of this business is consistent with our group's outlined intention to establish a U.S. sales presence for Hypoguard,” says David Wong, chief executive of Medisys. "Instant access through an experienced sales force brings significant advantage for our new U.S. product launch.”
