Portable Endoscopic Camera Shares Images

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 30 Aug 2011
A novel portable high-definition (HD) imaging system helps urologists share images instantly with both patients and colleagues.

The endogo HD endoscopic camera is a battery operated, portable, hand-held endoscopic video camera with integrated viewing and archiving capability that offers both HD video and still-image capture capabilities. More...
Physicians can share captured images and exam findings with the patient, a family member, or another colleague immediately following the exam, which can reduce the need for repeat procedures. The combination of data acquisition, storage, management, and the synchronization of patient folders in an easy-to-use web-based application also makes it possible to send an image or video over a secured connection to a referring doctor outside the facility.

The endogo HD easily couples with both flexible and rigid endoscopes, transforming the captured images and video from analog to digital. The camera also has built-in light source optimization for high-quality imaging and a 3.5-inch removable liquid crystal display (LCD) touch-screen for multimedia playback. Another benefit is compatibility of the endogo HD with electronic medical record (EMR) systems; using eGoWorks, a proprietary online data storage and collaborative software, allows the data acquired to be used within EMR. The endogo HD imaging system is a product of Envisionier Medical Technologies (Woodstock, GA, USA), and is distributed by Cook Medical (Cook, Bloomington, IN, USA).

“We are excited about endogo HD because it truly underscores Cook’s commitment to physicians and their patients,” said Jean-Marc Creissel, global leader of Cook’s urology business unit. “The technology simplifies the process of storing and sharing medical images. The benefits around care, ease of use and potential cost savings are significant because this technology streamlines how physicians interact with each other, their patients, and external facilities.”

The endogo HD is intended for use in a range of clinical applications, including otolaryngology – head and neck surgery, routine examinations of the ear, nose and throat (ENT), transnasal flexible laryngoscopy (TFL) with biopsy, transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE), office based sinus procedures, difficult airways, bedside consultation, speech and language pathology, flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing with sensory testing (FEEST).
