Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting System Boosts Procedure Protocols

An advanced endoscopic vessel harvesting (EVH) offers streamlined controls, simplified operation, and improved functionality to support positive outcomes in delivering EVH to patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

The Vasoview 6 PRO EVH system offers a simplified and larger rotating carriage, as well as a larger-profile cutting toggle and C-Ring slider to facilitate easy operation. More...
Additional features include a streamlined dissection tip, improved tunnel creation, and optimum clarity. Bipolar ligating forceps provide highly hemostatic cauterization, increased extension, and a full 360-degree rotation for superior flexibility and maneuverability. Carbon dioxide (CO2) insufflation creates clear, long tunnel views, using innovative focal distal insufflation for further-reaching visualization. A handle with built in ergonomically designed controls is easy to use and provides excellent maneuverability, and a simplified attachment system allows cables to be consolidated into single bundle.

Additionally, each VASOVIEW 6 PRO system includes a Vasoshield pressure-controlling syringe, which allows clinicians to adjust and limit pressure in controlled increments when preparing a vessel during coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedures. Protection from over-distension helps optimize conduit quality by protecting the harvested vessels, since uncontrolled, high-distension pressure has been shown to injure the vessel's endothelium, potentially affecting long-term graft patency. The Vasoview 6 PRO EVH system is a product of Maquet (Rastatt, Germany).

"We are impressed with the Vasoview 6 PRO technological improvements and look forward to being able to use the system in our practice,” said Christopher McCarley, MDPA-C, a chief physician assistant of cardiothoracic surgery at the North Mississippi Medical Center (Tupelo, USA). "It is very convenient that the Vasoshield pressure controlling syringe is included, because we believe the extra protection it affords against over-distension of the conduit is an important factor in successful patient outcomes.”

In EVH, a healthy blood vessel, such as the saphenous vein from the leg or the radial artery from the arm, is removed through a small incision for use during CABG surgery to bypass a blockage in the heart. EVH offers several patient benefits over open vein harvesting, including faster healing, less postoperative pain and scarring, and reduced risk of wound complications, such as infection. These well-established benefits have resulted in EVH becoming the standard of care in the United States, with 80% of all CABG surgeries utilizing this technique.
