Definition Health (Brighton, UK), a digital health company that is revolutionizing the hospital-based approach to healthcare, is launching its ground-breaking end-to-end digital pathway for surgical patients at Arab Health 2023. Recognizing the pressing challenge of huge elective surgery waiting lists, the company is joining the ABHI UK Pavilion to demonstrate how it can help hospitals embrace proven digital technologies to ease the elective backlog pressure and benefit patients across the world.

Definition Health was founded by two NHS consultants to address healthcare system inefficiencies that are driven from unnecessary outpatient appointments and incomplete patient information often leading to short notice surgery cancellations. With an innovative approach to patients' healthcare journeys through web-based apps, the company has developed an end-to-end system that refocuses the surgical pathway around the patient to deliver continuity of care and avoid unnecessary appointments, patient travel and short notice cancellations. This innovative approach results in better patient outcomes, cost savings, increased efficiency and hospital capacity. The first-of-its-kind digital pathway is clinically proven to reduce the need for face-to-face appointments, offer a list of surgery-ready patients, facilitate remote working and reduce readmissions through continuous virtual support.

The technology covers the entire healthcare journey, with plans to go even further by facilitating the seamless flow of information between the primary and secondary care settings, and introducing AI technology to offer a greater understanding of patient demographics and population health. In the UK, Definition Health’s innovations have resulted in a material increase in both efficiency and patient care improvement to its current partners. In a case study, one hospital evidenced savings of over GBP 96,000 for every 5,000 patients, with printing and postal costs for patient information being reduced by roughly GBP 11,000 during the study. Time saving was improved by 1.92 hours per patient, with improved patient satisfaction to 88% and 60% reduction in face-to-face appointments.

“Tackling the backlog of elective care remains a major challenge for health systems. Definition Health is excited to be joining ABHI at Arab Health to launch our end-to-end digital surgical pathway that supports patients from the moment they are referred for surgery, through pre-op assessment and then into a virtual ward following discharge from hospital,” said Sandeep Chauhan, Co-Founder of Definition Health. “We look forward to demonstrating our innovative approach to streamline patients’ healthcare journeys and are keen to engage with potential distributors, commercial and healthcare providers with knowledge to establish synergy and collaboration opportunities in the Middle East and beyond.”
