The Puritan Bennet 840 Neonatal, Universal, and Pediatric-Adult Ventilators deliver comprehensive ventilation to a broad range of patients. More...

The Puritan Bennet 840 line of critical care ventilators is designed for use on patients with a stable respiratory drive. The ventilators are supplied with high-performance pneumatics, dual-microprocessor electronics, and touch-screen controls, and can be upgraded and customized with various software options to meet various present and future clinical needs. Enhanced noninvasive ventilation (NIV) improves comfort for patients and performance for clinicians. Seamless communications with all major patient monitoring and hospital information systems provides electronic data transfer into a patient's medical record.

The 840 ventilators are designed with rugged, reliable components and a modular design that provides easy serviceability. The platforms provided include the Puritan Bennett 840 Neonatal ventilator, which helps clinicians safely deliver, manage, and monitor a ventilation regimen tailored for even the smallest and most critically ill neonatal patients by offering the ability to set a tidal volume as small as 2 mL--for neonates weighing as little as 300 g--without having to change to another ventilator.

The Puritan Bennett 840 Universal ventilator for every patient type, from neonatal to adult, includes a neonatal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) mode that enables clinicians to deploy flexibly noninvasive ventilation in neonates. It also supports patient-ventilator synchrony, which has been shown to facilitate spontaneous breathing. The ventilator includes features that effectively match the patient's respiratory demand and adapt to changes in patient condition. The Puritan Bennett 840 Pediatric-Adult ventilator for pediatric to adult patients helps clinicians provide improved levels of support by offering multiple therapies of ventilation.

Software options include proportional assist ventilation (PAV)+ software, which provides consistent support for the work of breathing even with changes in respiratory drive; BiLevel software, which allows patients to breathe spontaneously at two levels of positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP), for greater patient/ventilator synchrony; Volume Ventilation Plus software, a pressure control breath style with a guaranteed tidal volume; Tube Compensation Software, a spontaneous breath delivery enhancement that accurately overcomes the work of breathing through an artificial airway; and NeoMode software, which allows the 840 Ventilator to ventilate patients as small as 500 g without requiring a flow sensor at the patient's airway. The Puritan Bennet 840 line of critical care ventilators are products of Covidien (Dublin, Ireland).

"Expanding on the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator, the three new acute care ventilator platforms help clinicians safely deliver, manage and monitor ventilation for a broad range of patients,” said Roger Mecca, MD, vice president and medical director of respiratory and monitoring solutions at Covidien. "With intuitive user interfaces and a comprehensive feature set, the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator technology is designed to comfortably provide patients with highly responsive, flexible ventilatory support.”
